Five Important Things I’ve Learnt about being an Intern

  1. The importance of being present: Throughout my experience as an intern, I have learnt about the importance of being aware of your surroundings, which in turn, allows you to become more open to learning new skills without having any barriers within your mind. Being present also allows you to enhance your social skills as your attention is fully focused towards the people you are interacting with.
  1. Don’t be afraid to ask questions: How do we learn without asking questions? As an intern, to gain the most out of your experience and bring clarity to topics or projects you are unsure of, asking questions will bring light to any uncertainness and make it aware to your supervisor that you are actively engaging with the projects and are interested in learning more.
  1. How to work in a team environment: As an intern, you get an invaluable opportunity to work with a team of professionals, collaborating about tasks and working collectively to achieve the best possible results for the client. 
  1. Putting your professional skills to the test: There are multiple skills which can be put into practice that can enhance your overall professionality within the workforce early on. These skills include; time management, effective communication with team members and displaying a strong work ethic. 
  1. The skills you learn are invaluable: One of the most important things I’ve learnt about being an intern is that the practical knowledge and skills that you take away from your experience are invaluable and will greatly assist you with future employment prospects.
